…and introducing a brand new CSA for 2010:

  • Family Farm (FF) CSA 4830 Morse Rd NE, Iowa City, IA

Here is some information from Pam:

2010 is the year that I will start my CSA from my family farm (hence the name Family Farm CSA).

Season: I will only be accepting 5 shares this year.  Each share will be able to feed a family of to 4 to 5 and will be $25.00 a week.  ½ shares may be an option if there is an interest.  I will begin in late May or no later then the 1st week in June and be going for 18 weeks.  You may also purchase a 1 dozen egg share

Contents: When in season and with the cooporation of Mother Nature, you can expect to get the following vegetables, herbs, and fruits through the 2010 growing season.
Asparagus, Head and loose leaf lettuce, spinach, radishes, rhubarb, Kohlrabi, snow peas, broccoli, green and red cabbage, apples, black, gold and red raspberries, peaches, pears, cauliflower, several different varieties of potatoes, sweet and storage onions, collard greens, summer squash, zucchini, cucumbers, heirloom tomatoes as well as yellow, red and pink slicing tomatoes, roma tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, arugula, eggplant, acorn squash, butternut squash, delicate squash, celery, carrots,  Cenetro, Dill, chives, and much, MUCH more.

General Farm Information: This farm has been in my family for over 110 years.  I, my husband and daughter farm with my mother who has lived on this farm her all her life.  I work full time on the farm and am also involved with a local 4-H club and our county fair.  My husband works full time in town but helps with the farm work the rest of his time.  My 13 year old daughter is very helpful with the farm and the garden as well as being very active in school with sports and her flute and in 4-H. My mom is still very active on the farm as well as helping grow produce.  I start all my plants in the small greenhouse that I have, then they are transplanted when the weather has warmed.

There are 200 acres that my mom rents out for crops or that we use for oats and hay for our cattle.  We also have a small herd of 28 Black Angus cow/calf operations.  We also sell our corn and hay fed hormone free cows for direct sell for meat .  I also raise broiler chickens that we butcher and sell and I raise 36 brown egg layer hens.

My mom, daughter and I also run a baking business out of our home called Peggy’s Pies and More.  We not only bake pies but Kolaches, cakes (specializing in the RAINBOW cake), candies, cookies, breads and so much more.  Most of the fillings for our pies and Kolaches are from our produce on our farm and everything is baked from scratch.  We also sell all hardwood firewood.  The best part about everything that we sell is that all proceeds go to helping our family farm by paying our property taxes to repairs to our fences and buildings.  Even better is that we love our farm and what we do.

Pickup Location: You may pick up your share at the farm either on Friday
5:30 – 7:00 or Saturday 11am – 1pm. If these days do not work other arrangements can  be made.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS CSA PLEASE EITHER CALL ME AT 319-936-1317 or EMAIL ME AT p.worden@wildblue.net I ONLY WILL BE ACCEPTING 5 SHARES AND THEY WILL BE ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS. YOU MAY BE ABLE TO PURCHASE MORE THEN ONE SHARE IF YOU WANT AND IF AVAILABLE. “
